Dividing Eden
(Dividing Eden #1)
by Joelle Charbonneau

From the author of the New York Times bestselling Testing trilogy comes a sweeping new fantasy series, perfect for fans of Victoria Aveyard and Sarah J. Maas.

Twins Carys and Andreus were never destined to rule Eden. With their older brother next in line to inherit the throne, the future of the kingdom was secure.

But appearances—and rivals—can be deceiving. When Eden’s king and crown prince are killed by assassins, Eden desperately needs a monarch, but the line of succession is no longer clear. With a ruling council scheming to gain power, Carys and Andreus are faced with only one option—to take part in a Trial of Succession that will determine which one of them is worthy of ruling the kingdom.

As sister and brother, Carys and Andreus have always kept each other safe—from their secrets, from the court, and from the monsters lurking in the mountains beyond the kingdom’s wall. But the Trial of Succession will test the bonds of trust and family.

With their country and their hearts divided, Carys and Andreus will discover exactly what each will do to win the crown. How long before suspicion takes hold and the thirst for power leads to the ultimate betrayal?

I haven't been writing any reviews lately because I don't have that much time to read a lot. It took me about 4-5 days to finish this book. That is what happens when I have to go back to work. I haven't found the balance of the work mode and reading mode yet. I was a bum for 3 months so I'm having withdrawal symptoms. LOL. I want to sleep more than I want to read.

So this book was on my "Watch out for List" because a lot of bookstagrammers were recommending it. I was a little confused at the beginning because there were only a few sentences spaced out to make sense of the back story. It wasn't until about the middle of the book when I think I finally had an idea about what the Kingdom of Eden was all about.

I don't want to post too many spoilers so I'm just going to post what I like and dislike.

What I liked. The plot has it's merits - Twins who were never really meant to rule, seers who control the wind and read the stars, unlikely allies, a battle for the crown. I loved that there was one character I already knew I'd hate from chapter one. I loved that there was a female best friend , and the two "love interests" are not too obvious yet. I hope it's not going to be the typical love triangle. oh, and I kinda liked the twist in the story.

What I didn't Like. The plot was not evenly paced. There were chapters that were too slow and then there were parts that didn't have enough to complete the story line and it felt rushed. The character I hated didn't live long enough to me to really hate the character more. Hahaha. And I did not like that just because of that same character the relationship of the twins just went down the drain. It was like their 17/18 yrs of watching out each others backs didn't matter.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

The reason for the rating is because of what I disliked. I hope the next book will be better paced and better written too.
