#TopThreeTevsday - Top 3 Reading/Bookish Pet Peeves

Reading - best thing since before the invention of sliced bread. I read like I breath - I can't live without it. I have books all over my room in my mom's house and I have a massive collection of e-books saved in my hard drive, my Google Drive, and my mobile phone. I was the girl with her nose always buried in a book. I love going into bookstores and libraries and just gaze at all the books on the shelves. I jealousy guard my book collection.

Sounds familiar? If you are a reader you will agree that about 80% of the time it is just bliss to read, and then there are the annoying moments. Let's talk about my top 3 reading pet peeves.

Top 3. Watching the Movie adaptation and seeing how WAY off it is from the book.

I hate when this happens. I'm all excited to see my favorite books come to life complete with popcorn, soda, and candy bars. I do not expect to regret paying for the movie within the first few minutes into it just because the directors have the "artistic licence" to veer off from the original plot and/or change how the characters look like (according to the book). Out of all the Book to Movie adaptations I've seen, only 1 out of 5 books actually stay loyal to the book in a higher degree. Eventually for book series, it's going to get worse altogether.

Top 2. Books I'd totally throw out the window become sooo popular it's ridiculous.

Ok fine, so we have different taste in book genres. But seriously, a book that has a bad story lines, poorly written and has even worse characters (flat and no development) make it to top of the best seller lists, while the other books who are actually written better - good (or great) story line and character development, coherent with sentence and paragraphs, etc. only make it to lists like "Books to wait for" or "Must Read" lists. I'm not going to title drop books here but you will know what I mean. I'm incredulous. I have to ask people if they've actually read the book or are only riding on to the fame. It's that bad. And again, I could go on forever ranting about this.

Top 1. My books are never returned.

There is a reason why I now prefer e-books - I won't have to worry that my books won't be able to find their way home to me anymore.  Ever since I could afford to buy my own books, I have probably lost a dozen or more titles in my collection because my "friends" forget or neglect to give them back. Some were stolen. I can always make more money to buy my books but it's different when other people don't respect me enough to know my books are my family. They don't get the feeling of losing a family member and seeing their space in my shelf empty.  If you borrowed it give it back.

My other reading/bookish pet peeves that are worth mentioning:
  • Dog-eared books - Use a Bookmark for goodness sake!
  • Torn pages - This is just....NO
  • Being judged for criticizing a certain smut fiction and being called out that for my criticism when, according to someone, I can't be proud of my grammar either.
  • Misleading blurbs. Some books have amazing blurbs and the content does not live up to it.
  • Having to wait for the next book in the series to come out.
  • Predictable plots and love interests. It got old real fast people.

  1. #1 omg "Blood and Chocolate". The movie changed EVERYTHING. The setting, the characters and must importantly the ending and reversed the whole moral of the dang story! >.<
Agree with you on the other ones too. ;)
