INTO THE DIM
(Into the Dim #1)
by Janet B. Taylor

When fragile, sixteen-year-old Hope Walton loses her mom to an earthquake overseas, her secluded world crumbles. Agreeing to spend the summer in Scotland, Hope discovers that her mother was more than a brilliant academic, but also a member of a secret society of time travelers. Trapped in the twelfth century in the age of Eleanor of Aquitaine, Hope has seventy-two hours to rescue her mother and get back to their own time. Along the way, her path collides with that of a mysterious boy who could be vital to her mission . . . or the key to Hope’s undoing.

Ley lines, Scotland, and Time Travel. I admit I am still trying to decide if I like this book or not. I picked up this book because it the time travel element (and the gorgeous cover), didn't know they'd be using the Ley lines to do the travelling.

So I was introduced to Hope Walton, the most neurotic heroine I have encountered to far - she's claustrophobic but has an eidectic memory. She is so socially inept and awkward it's cringe worthy. She thinks her mother died while away on a trip to India and since his adoptive Fathers family never really accepted her she reluctantly jumped on her estranged aunts invitation to come stay at their estate in Scotland. It all goes wonky after that.

Hope finds out that her mom (who is her adoptive mother as well) is trapped in the year 1154 and that they are Viators - Travelers of time. They travel back in time using they Ley lines found inside the mountain in her mothers estate with the help of equipment invented by Nikola Tesla. So, along with 2 friends, hope sets out on a mission to save her mother. Sub plot is they are also searching for a legendary Opal called the Nonius Stone that would make time travel easier. There was a little bit of Romance going on with Hope and Bran - a boy she might while she was roaming her aunts estate. By the middle of the books, it is discovered that Bran is the adoptive son of the Viators enemy, and that he has been spying on her.

All in all, I guess it wasn't that exciting of a read for me. It was interesting enough not to leave me bored, and I was able to finish the book. I am also still looking forward to reading any more sequels to this series. If you want a relaxed and easy read this one is the book you can pick up.
