The beast raged; it punctured the air with its spite. But the girl was fiercer.

Tea is different from the other witches in her family. Her gift for necromancy makes her a bone witch, who are feared and ostracized in the kingdom. For theirs is a powerful, elemental magic that can reach beyond the boundaries of the living—and of the human.

Great power comes at a price, forcing Tea to leave her homeland to train under the guidance of an older, wiser bone witch. There, Tea puts all of her energy into becoming an asha, learning to control her elemental magic and those beasts who will submit by no other force. And Tea must be strong—stronger than she even believes possible. Because war is brewing in the eight kingdoms, war that will threaten the sovereignty of her homeland…and threaten the very survival of those she loves. [n.]

I was sold on this book because there are only a few YA books with a Necromancy theme and when I was a few chapters in I found out that the plot is almost like Memoirs of a Geisha. I adored that book, it made reading Bone Witch much more interesting.

Tea isn't like her sisters, she accidentally raised her dead brother from the grave when she was a little girl. She is taken by a Dark Asha to train and be able to control her abilities. I so loved the description of how they are dressed, the enchanted baubles they put in their hair.

I've read other reviews giving this book a low rating because of all the long descriptions. I actually liked that about this book, it is detailed. This is a long worded book that surprisingly didn't bore me. I even loved the beginning of each chapter where a story teller has sought out the Bone Witch Tea and they talk while re raises the monstrous Deava to do her bidding. I wasn't even surprised about Tea's love interest by the end of the book. I felt I was left hanging by the end though and I want more.
