Book Review | Furyborn (Empirium #1) by Claire Legrand (ARC)

The Gate will fall. The angels will return and bring ruin to the world. You will know this time by the rise of two human Queens, - One of blood, and one of light. One with the power to save the world. One with the power to destroy it. Two Queens will rise. They will carry the power of the Seven. They will carry your fate in their hands. Two Queens will rise.

The stunningly original, must-read fantasy of 2018 follows two fiercely independent young women, centuries apart, who hold the power to save their world...or doom it.

When assassins ambush her best friend, the crown prince, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing her ability to perform all seven kinds of elemental magic. The only people who should possess this extraordinary power are a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light and salvation and a queen of blood and destruction. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven trials to test her magic. If she fails, she will be executed...unless the trials kill her first.

A thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a mere fairy tale to bounty hunter Eliana Ferracora. When the Undying Empire conquered her kingdom, she embraced violence to keep her family alive. Now, she believes herself untouchable--until her mother vanishes without a trace, along with countless other women in their city. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain on a dangerous mission and discovers that the evil at the heart of the empire is more terrible than she ever imagined.

As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world--and of each other.

I heard about this book in Twitter and saw that it was available for request in Netgalley. I feel so lucky it got approved. Big thank you to Netgalley for letting me read this eARC. I seriously hope I'd get more Netgalley ARCs even if I'm an International Blogger. The hype has it's merits.

This book was fast paced and had a lot of action. I loved how the 2 main characters - Rielle and Eliana, mother and daughter show how they are made into the Queens of Prophecy. They are the Queen of Blood and the Queen of Light. The word building was written fast well and I definitely enjoyed the epic parts as well as the "slow" fillers to get to the epic parts. I saw where the 2 main characters were described separately then converged slowly together by the end.

This book has action, intrigue, a lot of deaths, magic, politics, and of course a hint of romance. This being the first book, the foundations of the background of the story was not rushed at all and it does tell you that it will lead to more books so that we'd find out what happened to Rielle and Eliana. I also love the supporting characters like Simon, Remy, Zahra, and Navi for Eliana, and Audric and Ludivine for Rielle.

Even the protagonist aren't your typical "bad guys" because they're Angels. This might be only the 2nd book I've read where angels aren't good.

I am so excited to read the next books in this series. Please support the author by buying this book when it comes out in May 2018!
