Mini Book Reviews | Netgalley Books of the Week

I am seriously trying to make myself stop requesting new eARCs because I still have tons of books to read and no time to write. Well I just got off requesting a handful of new books from there. Ugh. I can't resist! Anyway, let's get on with the last 2 books I read a few weeks ago.

Star-Touched Stories
(The Star-Touched Queen #2.5)
by Roshani Chokshi
Expected publication: August 7th 2018 by St. Martin's Press
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Three lush and adventurous stories in the Star-Touched world.

Death and Night. He was Lord of Death, cursed never to love. She was Night incarnate, destined to stay alone. After a chance meeting, they wonder if, perhaps, they could be meant for more. But danger crouches in their paths, and the choices they make will set them on a journey that will span lifetimes.

Poison and Gold. Now that her wish for a choice has come true, Aasha struggles to control her powers. But when an opportunity to help Queen Gauri and King Vikram's new reign presents itself, she is thrown into the path of the fearsome yet enchanting Spy Mistress. To help her friends, Aasha will have to battle her insecurities and perhaps, along the way, find love.

Rose and Sword. There is a tale whispered in the dark of the Empire of Bharat-Jain. A tale of a bride who loses her bridegroom on the eve of her wedding. But is it a tale or a truth? [1]

Review: OMG this book! It gave me answers for the questions I had from book one and two. I especially loved the last story Rose and Sword where Gauri tells her headstrong granddaughter of the legend of the bride who loses and saves her bridegroom. This book was like smooth velvet or that absolutely decadent warm chocolate drink. That was seriously how I felt reading it. I seriously wish there were more stories from Maya and Gauri's world. If not, i'll probably just reread them over and over again.

Prophecy of Darkness

(Legends of the Tri-Gard #1)

by Michelle Bryan, Michelle Lynn

Published October 20th 2017
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Only magic can save them from what is coming, but first, it must be reclaimed.

Twenty years ago, war devastated Dreach. Bloody and cruel, it ravaged the realm and stripped magic from Dreach-Sciene.

Without magic, there is no hope. No life. For Prince Trystan Renauld, there is no choice. As his people starve, his enemy prepares for a final showdown that will decide the fate of the realm.

Without magical power, he and his people will lose everything. Even with it, they may fail.

Against a backdrop of prophecy, curses, and forbidden love, Trystan must reunite the legendary Tri-Gard, keepers of the magic, and find the power he’s always believed was a fairy tale: magic, the very foundation of life. With both sides preparing for battle, it’s a race against time—and against the kind of darkness that can destroy them all. [2]

Review: As much as I loved the book at the top, this one was such a chore to read. I liked it enough to finish it but I was not impressed. There were so many elements that were cliche and/or archetype. So I basically predicted every step the characters were going to take and what would happen. It was a little painful.

(I love Millie soo much..she's so adorable)
