Book Review | The Heart Forger (The Bone Witch #2) by Rin Chupeco

“That is the nature of grief. But to grieve means you have loved. To love opens up the possibility for grief. There cannot be one without the other.”

No one knows death like Tea. A bone witch who can resurrect the dead, she has the power to take life...and return it. And she is done with her self-imposed exile. Her heart is set on vengeance, and she now possesses all she needs to command the mighty daeva. With the help of these terrifying beasts, she can finally enact revenge against the royals who wronged her―and took the life of her one true love.

But there are those who plot against her, those who would use Tea's dark power for their own nefarious ends. Because you can't kill someone who can never die...

War is brewing among the kingdoms, and when dark magic is at play, no one is safe. [n.]

This book is just, wow. Like really WOW. The wait for this book has been so worth it. This book is so heart breaking and breathtakingly beautiful.

Once again we see are welcomed into the life of Tea, Bone-witch and Dark Asha. She is on a rampage of death to make sure that those she love could live. A lot of people got confused with the first book because of the switching between present and past and that element is continued in this book. I have read other books that tried that with little success, meaning it was hella confusing. But these 2 books are not. The author was able to put the past and the present side by side with sense. I couldn't skip read because I didn't want to miss even the smallest detail in the story.

I loved the development of the characters especially Tea. I saw how her innocence slowly morphed into an awareness that she had to let the dark take over to do good which is heartbreaking for the people who lover her (and vicariously to me). The story of how she and Kalen fell in love was perfect. No angsty insta-love here. But the breakout characters for me were Khalad and Lykh - I love how they were their own brilliant diamond. I am seriously rooting for them in the 3rd book (pretty please?).

So I am setting myself up patiently waiting for the next book in this series which will come out in 2019. You may also support this author buy purchasing her books (I'll leave an amazon link below).

Note: I read this book quite a while back and recently I was lucky enough to get a copy of the ARC of The Shadow Glass, the 3rd and last book in this trilogy directly from the author! 😆
