I'd like to take the opportunity to thank Rafael of The Royal Polar Bear Reads for hosting this tour. He is one awesome and uber nice [fellow] Filipino Blogger and you should definitely follow his blog.
I literally just finished this book as I am writing this and everything is still fresh in my mind. We are wlcomed back in the world of Warcross and life of Emika Chen. After the uproar in the first book, and the feeling that I wanted to find out about Zero, this book was a satisfying close to the Warcross universe.
I was talking to some of my fellow bloggers in this tour while I was waiting for my copy of the book to get sent and I was hearing some say it wasn't as good as the first book. I was thinking Warcross was actually the first book written by Marie Lu that I liked so I was setting the bar a little high for Wildcard. I was not disappointed.
I liked the fact that the 2nd book was not as packed with gaming jargon just like the first book. This book will mess with your brain and your heart. We finally get answers as to what happened with Sasuke Tanaka and what it means to be a family whether by blood or through shared passions and experiences. It broke my heart when I found out what really happened to Sasuke. I loved how the Phoenix Riders rally and protect Emika, even the most unlikely people would not let anything bad happen to her. And that ending? It was an expected twist that was very satisfying.
A world where everyone is immersed in technology like in Ready Player One and Warcross isn't an impossibility anymore. We already basically live our lives through social media, and games are a dime a dozen. My take away from this duology is that fact that the horrors in the world are not going to go away and we can't fight horrors with horrors. We already have the tools, it is up to us how to use it.
