Book Review | Kingdom Cold by Brittni Chenelle

"My recent losses had taught me something
that I believed to my core: love was inmortal."
- Brittni Chenelle, Kingdom Cold

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Attempted murder, that's how sixteen-year-old Princess Charlotte's engagement starts. It seems like the only thing she has in common with Prince Young of Vires is their mutual discontent.

When her kingdom's attacked, Charlotte's parents renegotiate her hand in marriage to a handsome stranger with a sinister plan. With the people Charlotte loves dying around her, and her kingdom's future at stake, the only person she can turn to is the prince she betrayed. But, should she save her kingdom or her heart?

One must fall. [n.]

I was contacted by the author, Brittni Chenelle, through Instagram and I actually already forgot about the book when it came in the mail. Brittni was so nice when she contacted me and gave me the details of the book.

This is a fantasy story set in the Arthurian age, or before the Arthurian age, when Princess Charlotte of Besmium was to wed Prince Young of Vires to forge an alliance between the two kingdoms. It is told in different points of view so we can actually read what the characters are doing and how they are setting things in motion. Chenelle wrote a good culturally diverse story especially with the description of the Kingdoms and their practices.  Prince Young and Princes Charlotte could be of Asian and African heritage respectively. Although the basic story line is Princess weds Prince to save Kingdom, there were a lot of elements that made the story a good read.

I would say, the love story between Prince Young and Princess Charlotte was charming and wasn't all that different than any teenage love you can read in other books. What made it interesting are the people around them - there is the dashing older brother Prince Minseo, who caught Charlotte's eye when they first met, the lady's maid Milly who I though was just a wilting flower but turned out to be a conniving girl who will stop at nothing to get what she wants, and Prince Emmett of Algonia who reminded me so much of Gaston from Beauty and the Beast.

The story held a little bit of an amateur quality for me because of the lack of a well rounded character development plus it reads like an MG book except for the characters ages and the fact that they had to eventually consummate their marriage. Also, there were parts that left me a little confused because of the transition like the the arrival of the King and Queen of Vires after Charlotte sent them a letter for help and they were with this exotic eastern Princess who was supposed to be Minseo's betrothed.

Aside from that, this is a fun read and if you are looking for something different then this is the book for you.

This is the first review I have done this month and I have a back log of a lot more to write. I'm swamped! LOL. I'd love to read your comments so don't forget to leave them below.
