I've known about Mary Kay products for years. The only reason why I didn't purchase from them is because their prices are not cheap. I am much more familiar with Mary Kay's much cheaper (by a fraction) cousin Avon. One day I hear from a High School batch mate and she said she had a new business. I could say the rest is history.
I did mention that Mary Kay's prices are a little bit expensive, so I ordered some stuff with a price range I could handle. Even if my batch mate told me I could pay her in 2 months without down payment, I didn't want to be overwhelmed with my first purchase. What I really wanted to get was a compact face powder that had lasting coverage.
What did I get?
Ivory. Php699/$13.75
I normally use Maybelline Clear Smooth All-in-One Powder Foundation but my dog chewed up my last compact (yes he likes rummaging through my purse) and the powder broke. I had to throw it away. In the mean time I was using an old Clean and Clear Face Powder I still had lying around. I had to buy a pressed powder.
This product came in 3 parts ~ the mini black mirror compact, sponge applicator (pack of 2), and the pressed powder. I can't just order a refill once it runs out, I'll always get a new mirror compact (I asked just in case).
I've been using it for a week now. It's light and the shade I got was right for my skin tone. I didn't look like I dipped my face in flour. I an oily T-Zone so I knew the coverage wouldn't last me the whole day. But working in an air conditioned office, I barely had to do retouches. Maybe only 2 times after 1st application before I go to work.
Always Apricot. Php599/$11.63
And of course I gravitated to the lipsticks like a moth to flame. I still have 2 lipsticks and 1 liquid lipstick that I use alternately depending on my outfit or mood.
- Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick in Touch of Spice ~ I got this as Christmas present last December and I've been trying not to use it up right away because this shade is always sold out everywhere.
- REVLON SUPER LUSTROUS™ LIPSTICK in Rum Raisin ~ I got this that one time Revlon was on sale for Php200/$3.88
- Essence Matt Matt Matt Longlasting Lipgloss in 05 Simply Be an Icon ~ Given to me by my partners mother
I've used up all the other lipsticks in my collection so I was able to rationalize getting a new shade. The lipsticks I have been using for a long time are either nudes or darks, just to veer from the norm I got a slightly lighter shade. I'm still trying to like this shade because I didn't realize it was so prone to creasing and clinging to dry patches. The formulation feels like my Maybelline lipstick ~ creamy then matte, but this Mary Kay lipstick looks horrible when the lips start drying. I'll need to get a new lipbalm to see if that will change anything.
All in my bill was Php1298/$25.20. Not bad for a first order. So far I'm liking the pressed powder a lot and the lipstick not so much.
