Bookish Musings: My Hogwarts House (Pottermore) Part 1

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
- The Sorting Hat

I am not joking when I say that every Harry Potter Sorting Quiz I have taken has always placed in me in Gryffindor.

I remember waiting patiently for the Pottermore Website to load when it first came out to get myself sorted into my house. Back then it was the closest thing to living the Hogwarts World. Now we have the Hogwarts Mystery Game but I'll write about that on another post.

I had taken a few Sorting quizzes since the 1st Harry Potter book came out, but getting sorted on the Official website, now that's cannon. Of course, I got sorted into Gryffindor. It was official.

I  am assuming since you are reading this that you are not a stranger to the Hogwarts Houses in the Harry Potter books. But just in case you discovered this post because you haven't read the books (or seen the movies??), here's a little run down.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the British wizarding school, located in the Highlands of Scotland. It takes students from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and Ireland.

Hogwarts students are divided into four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.

Gryffindor is well known for courage, bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry. The house colours are deep red and gold, and the house is symbolized by a lion.

Hufflepuff is well known for loyalty, patience, hard work, fair-play, honesty, and tolerance. The house is symbolised by a badger, and the house colours are yellow and black.

Ravenclaw values intelligence, wit, cleverness, creativity, and wisdom. The house is symbolised by an eagle and the house colours are blue and bronze.

Slytherin values ambition, leadership, cunning, determination, and resourcefulness. The house is symbolised by a serpent, and the house colours are green and silver.

Note: Thank you to harrypotter.wikia.com for those information above.

The last and most recent quiz which came about because of the popularity of the Fantastic Beast Movie was a sorting into your Ilvermorny House (I'll explain in different post). I was curious so I took the quiz.

The Horned Serpent.
Represents the mind.
Favors scholars.

The Ilvermorny House sounds like Ravenclaw. I knew I had a little bit of Ravenclaw in me. I'll leave this post as is now and continue in another post. Here's what you'll read about in Part 2 of My Hogwarts House sorting article: I tried to get sorted again. Guess where I got sorted?

Have you tried the Sorting Quiz in Pottermore? Have you tried other quizzes? What are your houses?

  1. Well, at least you've had it confirmed officially! ;) The characteristics of Gryffindor must be really a strong part of you for it to always come up with the same answer which, given what great characteristics they are, can only be a good thing!

    1. I feel that in theory I am a Gryffindor. I feel I haven't really showcased the characteristics except in my choices in answering the quiz (because I know I'd pick that certain choice). With my reading habits and being called a walking encyclopedia by some family and friends I felt I would have been sorted to Ravenclaw one way or the other. But you are right, being a Gryffindor certainly can only be a good thing for me. I just need to see it.

  2. I want to be a Gryffindor, feel like I should be a Ravenclaw, but I always somehow end up in Hufflepuff!

    1. I am thinking you are the best of all of those houses. =D

  3. I got Ravenclaw in every quiz before Pottermore, but then Pottermore sorted me into Gryffindor so I trust that result more seeing as JK Rowling made the quiz herself. My patronus was a ginger cat so basically Crookshanks, and my wand was 9 3/4 inches cypress with dragon heart string.
I blog about Harry Potter a lot too, I found Hogwarts Mystery more fun than Pottermore but still pretty flawed.

    1. I agree that there are a lot of flaws in the game but it's new so I am expecting improvements. My post will be a series or I don't know how many posts. LOL. I plan on tackling the game too.

  4. I'm always placed into Ravenclaw and Thunderbird! I'm not really sure what that means, but it's always so magical to find out things about ourselves that we didn't really know existed!

    1. No matter what the quiz is I guess it's the choices we choose that determine where we are sorted to. I love being a Gryffindor even if there are a lot of times I am neither brave nor daring.
