Movie Review | The Greatest Showman (2017)

I know I'm late for the boat but I'm not really much of a movie person, I guess that's someone who really likes watching movies as much as I love reading books. I have also already been hearing the OST of this movie for ages in Spotify when out of the blue I decided to check out the video of Rewrite the Stars on Youtube (yes..it was mainly due to Zac Efron..*ehemhighschoolmusicalehem*). From there I had to see This is Me. That song got me hooked and I really really needed to see the movie.

Storyline: Orphaned, penniless but ambitious and with a mind crammed with imagination and fresh ideas, the American Phineas Taylor Barnum will always be remembered as the man with the gift to effortlessly blur the line between reality and fiction. The first time I have watched this movie was last weekend. I have since then watched and re-watched it whenever I get the chance. I cannot believe how gorgeous Zendaya is. I might have gone into the movie because of my High School Musical memories of Zac Efron but my run away stars are Zendaya and Keala Settle. 

P.T. Barnum may have always been portrayed as an opportunist. Ambitious enough to know when he sees talent and opportunistic enough to capitalize on the macabre. I've encountered other shows where he is shown to be ruthless in acquiring his oddities. In The Greatest Showman, we see the reason behind the man. The story was romanticized but in the end, it showed how real our wants and passions are. How the world will not always see eye to eye with you but it's not impossible to be who you are, live your dreams, and "rewrite the stars". It definitely spoke to the #Metoo frame of mind.

I loved how the characters looked liked and the interpretation of the timeline. The Tall Man, the Wolf Boy, the Bearded Lady. It all looked so whimsical, so magical. Being as the movie was a musical, the performances made me want to sing along with them, especially when I've kinda already memorized the songs after watching the movie repeatedly. LOL. It wasn't bad the cast was star studded.

No wonder this movie was such a success and it still keeps making believers out of the people who are watching it, just like me.
